Flying is fun

I flew into Charlotte late on Monday night after another day of traveling. When I go home I always fly out from Kansas City to go to Charlotte because it's way cheaper. However, with driving to Kansas City from Springfield it usually takes me the same time it would to drive back all and all. I guess flying is better than driving even still, because I'm not stuck in the car the whole time.
Flying is cool because you never know what you are going to get. You never know who your going to sit by, what time your plane will take off for real, or if that rattling noise mid-flight is totally normal. This time my experience was a little different. It took me 20 minutes extra to get through security because my belt tripped the alarm and they found my lip gloss that was apparently dangerous.
I think airport security loves it when someone trips the alarm or they find something they have to comadeer. (If that's the case they really loved me!) Not only does it give them something to do, I think they go home proudly with everyone else's lipgloss and knifes and lighters. Not that there is much to do with those sort of things...but you never know.
The funny thing is that I've been waiting for them to catch me at something for a long time. Airport security sort of bothers me for various reasons I'm sure many can understand, so I try to make it a habit to put non-threatening things in front of them to see if they will catch it.
They never do.
It all started when one year I came home from a flight from Denver, CO and realized that my huge buck knife was still in my bag after two security checks (yes I have a big buck knife). I was sort of distrubed by this. I was glad I got to keep my knife but alarmed that they didn't catch it. This is when I decided that I would take various non-threatening things and put them in my bag to see if airport security could find it. (Kind of like a Where's Waldo book and when you know where Waldo is but the other person doesn't.) I've been doing this for a couple of years now, post 911, and Monday was the first time they found something like my dangerous lipgloss.

It kind of reminds me of the comforting scripture that 'There is lip balm in Gilead'.

Oh wait, that was just someone trying to sell me something. Never mind. Glad you're home.

I'm sure if enough lipgloss is applied to someones eye's it could be harmful, maybe they were afraid you were going to blind everyone on the plane.
