In my meditation today I got a little into Luke 12 - mostly verse 37:
"Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will fill find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will grid himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come serve them."
I thought about two things while meditating today: 1. what it means to watch and wait 2. why Jesus speaks so often of servants and masters as he speaks of the partnership between Him and the bride. (I might blog about number two later - but am sorta touching it in the watching and waiting thoughts...)
So watching is interesting. I never really thought it was but i think it is now. Mainly because I'm in this season of doing it. Watching for something usually happens when the thing you are looking at is in motion, or atleast, you know it will be. There's a definite difference between watching and just looking or merely glancing at something. I took a conscious peek at my room today and wondered to myself if I had ever "watched it". I thought, no, I look at it. I glance at it. There's no need to watch a room unless there's something alive inside of it. I looked at a tree today and thought, am I watching this? And indeed, I was, because it was moving. Because the wind was increasing and it was blowing all over the place. Something was happening or when it wasn't i knew that it would. And as I thought more about watching I came up with a little working definition of my own - Watching requires absence and focusing on a yet to come presence (whether it be someone, something happening, someone coming, etc.) Watching has everything to do with absence and presence... In the case of this scripture, Jesus is speaking about waiting for Him to come, though he tarries. He is saying to be ready immediately. He talks a lot about servants that decide since the master is taking his sweet time and that everything looks alright in the house - that it's okay to do something else. They become distracted, grab a bite to eat, drink some wine, take a nap...
Anyway, to the servant who watches Jesus says he will fellowship with, and serve. I believe the whole thing is a picture of what it means to partner with God. Our role in watching and waiting and His role in coming back - but this complete sharing of fellowship, friendship, and even Jesus serving His very servants. And all of this to say that I'm feeling very very burdened to partner with God's heart on large and small subjects - and I'm feeling very much like it's time that the Bride watches and waits with the Lord. And to be honest, that she's not. At all. We've been taking naps and drinking wine and feeding our appetites. But it's time to partner with Him and forget about all of our own little needs and distractions - surely a good Master will feed His servants and take care of their needs? We are called to be ready for Him - because He moves.

amen.
There is so so much meat in Luke 12.
(just a preface, i shared half of this with you just now when we talked, but i wanted to post my response anyways. sorry if its long)
I spent alot of time this afternoon meditating in Luke 12 as well. I was interceding for the nation and the poor and the whole economic crisis. I was focusing on verses 22-34 and the parts when He talks about How much more He loves us than the birdies and the grass and if He loves them and gives them food and clothes how and why would/could he not provide for our every need. As i prayed i feel like people have been so focused on themselves distracted by "naps" and feeding themselves and full of worry and anxious in fear. And I realize because Scripture says it but also because its true that we have little faith and so many of us live in unbelief as you recently spoke of from Hebrews with your lily story. But Jesus says
"Do not seek what you are to eat and what you are to drink, nor be worried"
and then says
"fear not little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom."
and goes on to command people to sell their possessions and give to the needy and to store up treasures not on earth but in heaven.
I think all in all this only relates to the very end of your post where you talk about

I feel this is so urgent, that we not be distracted and that we need only seek His kingdom. I think the church needs/is due for/ and will get an overdue wake up call.
also i love the insight that God gave you on watching and waiting. Its good. I love that you are so diligent in your time with The Lord. Is quite compelling, convicting and inspiring. And i pray that God teaches more people to be as fascinated with him as you are. I pray that the Lord uses you at work and around people that you see regularly that it would be infectious.
God is making me swim in some pretty deep waters. Thanks for all your encouragement and wisdom. I appreciate you.

Great post! You rock J-Dizzle
Another thought I had was specifically about the human eye. It's trained to focus on movement (which you alluded to). I believe our spiritual eye is the same, it's not meant to focus on the stagnant, but on the Holy Spirit who is moving, breathing, and active. I enjoyed your writing!
